Should you learn HTML?
These days it gets easier and easier to create a web site without needing to learn HTML. I should know. My whole Website Workshop is based on the idea that you don’t need to know any HTML to be able to create a stunning professional web site.
So, why would you want to waste time learning html?
Well, firstly, learning HTML is never a waste of time. In fact, you should devote some time to learning it. It is not difficult at all to master the basics. And it has got to be one of the easiest language to learn.
I would encourage you to learn HTML not so you can create a web site by hand coding from scratch. But if that’s what you want to do, then there’s nothing stopping you.
Here’s why knowing HTML remains useful:
- Being able to read the underlying code of your web pages.
That’s it?
Mmmmm …. yup! Pretty much.
And why is it useful to be able to read the source code of your web pages?
Because it gives you more control.
You’ll find this especially useful when you join certain services on the net that require you to add a snippet of code onto your web pages. This includes Aweber autoresponder forms, PayPal payment buttons, Amazon product links …. or one of these:
Just about anything you join online will require that snippet of code entered into your web pages. Knowing how to read HTML will make it a lot easier for you to enter the code exactly where you want it to appear. You can tweak your final ‘web page look’ almost to perfection. And if something goes wrong (your new button not working, for example), before you write to customer support, you’d be able to look at the code and do a quick check on whether it has something to do with something as simple as a missing closing tag.
Something worth thinking about.
