What is Web 2.0 ?
The World Wide Web has changed a lot since its inception. Starting from text only browsing, it has evaluated to website with images & now website with audio & online videos and social networking sites. The web 2.0, the current state of the internet, is not restricted to marketing and information resource but it is continuously evolving into complete computing platform.
What makes Web 2.0?
The key component is ‘Interactivity’. The earlier web was mainly one way communication. The site visitor used to see static information. Web 2.0 serves so the site visitor can do ‘something’ which is more than just static information.
Web 2.0 is described as emerging Internet technology in action. Today, Web 2.0 is next generation web, not technology itself, but the way that today’s Internet users use advanced online functionality.
Now the phrase ‘Web 2.0’ may be new to you, but you have probably ‘felt’ it. Most of the present day websites contain components attributed to Web 2.0; for example, blogs and AdSense represent Web 2.0.
Web 2.0 has also brought us new terminology such as ‘LOL’ or ‘laugh out loud’ which is not only restricted to Internet but also used in other conversations.
Other websites, with their styles and features, who are taking the Web towards Web 2.0 are Wikipedia, MySpace, YouTube, Blogger, Digg, and more. One thing which is common in these new age websites is ‘the dynamic aspects’. These websites uses multimedia and resources to make their websites interactive. Web 2.0 provides the rich environment for both networking and research. The social networking websites bring real-time networking.
Note, too, that earlier web site users were dependent on search engines to find information. However, with web 2.0 there is more inter-linking of websites where one web site links to another & so on. This offers the user a path to hop from one website to another without using search engines. This will be a faster way to access & retrieve information over the web.
With Web 2.0 when there are websites with tons of information, there is also a smarter & non-conventional way to retrieve the information. With use of RSS, for example, you can easily & efficiently retrieve the information over the web; RSS is a format for delivering regularly changing web content - it helps you stay informed easily by retrieving the latest content from the sites you are interested in, without visiting each site individually.
Web 2.0 also provides a structure for organizing and managing the video, audio and information & their online transfer. Websites like YouTube allow you to share your videos privately or publicly as per your choice.
Undoubtedly, Web 2.0 has created an online environment that can constantly change and adapt the technological advances thus the user can make use of the Internet in daily life. Rather than a lengthy discussion on Web 2.0, a better way to know Web 2.0 is to get involved with the Web 2.0 yourself.
