Google Docs Save You Hours Of Cleaning Up
A modern by product of the digital age is the collection of digital dust that clutters up our hard drives. Here we are, buying external hard drive after hard drive only to store our junk somewhere safe.
The thing is, there is no need to spend hundreds of dollars to keep your desktop clean of fluff. You can do this conveniently by using an online document sharing place. Some of them are private and others are public.
Personally I prefer private, because I can upload all my past client work, knowing that it won’t clutter up my hard disk and slow down my computer.
It is so convenient that I have fallen in love with Google Docs and as a result of this my computer is clean and fast.
To sign up with Google Docs follow this link. It is fast and totally free. If you already have an account with Google, then you can do this within your admin.
Once you are signed up login to your admin at Google Docs. You will see a sidebar like below that has no content in it yet.
As you can see, there is a folder that says all folders. In there will be all the folders you create. I usually name them by my clients names for ease of reference.
To create a new folder you simply click on new in the top left corner and from the drop down menu that appears you choose new folder.
You can also create spreadsheets, presentations and simple documents from within Google Docs.
Google Docs is a simple application that is so cool because of its simplicity.
I’m so over applications that are complicated to figure out and add clutter instead of saving time and that is why I have fallen in love with Google Docs I guess.
If you want to clean up your hard drive you click the upload button in the top left and the following window will open.
Choose the file from your computer and upload as usual in other applications. You can also rename the file once it is in your Google Doc admin and move it from one folder to the next.
A really cool feature is the sharing. If for example you work with a JV partner you can easily share certain files with each other and make them editable by both parties. This means you can both work on them individually and save them as you go.
All in all, Google Docs has allowed me to keep my computer clutter free and still have a place in the world where my files are kept safe.
Note: all though I believe that Google Docs are relatively safe, I would never upload any personal information or sensitive info onto any online server.
