If you are anything like me you would probably wonder what our readers want to know from us. What makes them click, act, comment and interact with our blog’s community?
This is especially of importance for new webmasters and blog masters, since unless we know what makes our readers tick, it is highly unlikely that we can please them accordingly.
This is where demographics come into play.
See, if you were thinking about politics when you read the title of this post, you weren’t so far off. As with politics, we need to measure our target market and this can be done by studying our readers behaviour. By using a stats program such as:
- Google Analytics
- Awstats (inbuilt into most cPanels)
- Statcounter
- Gostats and more
We can get some really good insights into our visitors behavior. Information such as where they came from (links, search engines, etc) and how long they stayed on our site will give us a good overview as to whether we are on track or not.
Making it a habit to study our traffic once per week really pays off in the long run.
Plugins can also do the job for WordPress bloggers as there are various on the market that offer similar functionality.
Markets differ
If you thought that Americans like the same stuff Asians like, think again. Every market differs tremendously and for bloggers this should not be under estimated. While most bloggers in the Western world have a predominantly American audience, Asians focus on different information when it comes to blogging altogether and knowing this can help you in your endeavors to becoming the next Problogger.
Blogging demographics can give us the low down on what really pulls when it comes to massive traffic and once you know this, you can really work it.
Take advantage of this info by using it in your posts to attract even more visitors and loyal readers.
Balance is the key
While most bloggers get lost in traffic stats and waste hours, or even days looking at them, I suggest you only allocate a couple of hours every week for this task. You are much better off working more money producing tasks for the rest of the week than spending time hunched over the latest stats figures.
The best way to get control of this habit is to make it one. Pencil it into your dairy every week and see how this can really help to build your blog.
If you prefer other stat programs it would be nice if you let us know in the comments section.
