Top New Features Of Firefox 3
Some of you might know about the latest release of Firefox busting all previous download records and trying to make it into the Guinness Book of Records. Australian web surfers have downloaded alone over 213,190 versions of Firefox 3. The latest version boasts more than 15,000 improvements to help Internet users navigate the web a lot easier and safer.
If you were amongst the crowd who helped celebrate Firefox 3 download day on June 17th, you can get your own certificate (just for fun) like mine below.
Hardcore Internet users already know Firefox is one of the best browsers to surf the web.
When I made the switch back around the middle of last year I fell instantly in love with this application.
I had grappled enough with IE band wanted a better and faster way to browse.
Top new Firefox 3 features
To mention all 15,000 improvements would mean I’d have to write a book which of course I won’t do. However, I thought it would be beneficial for some of you to make the switch from other browsers now that you know what to expect after reading this post.
A short overview will give you an idea on what to find:
- Password manager: with a new integrated feature you won’t see annoying pop ups anymore to ask you whether you want to remember a password or not.
- Smart location bar: Apparently the smart location bar will get better as you keep browsing. It will remember sites you visit often and return suggestions according to what search terms you type into it. Right now though it is annoying me as it keeps showing me sites I so don’t want to see.
- Full zoom: The new enhanced zoom lets you read your favourite sites a lot more easier, you can zoom into any site by either going to view - zoom, or by clicking the Ctrl key with the plus key (to zoom in) and the minus key (to zoom out again).
- One click bookmarking: This is actually way cool. By clicking on the star sign in the browser bar once you will mark the site as a favourite.
By double clicking you can easily bookmark any site with a small pop up window making the whole process a lot faster.
Use this to easily arrange your folders.
- Instant website ID: This feature is another winner. By clicking on any sites favicon you can instantly see whether this site is what they claim to be. It will tell you their privacy information (if they have one) plus whether they store cookies on your computer and much more.
- Improved performance: The new Firefox 3 leaves a softer footprint and uses less of your computer’s memory. Memory leaks are being fixed and unused memory is cleaned up without your doing.
- New download manager: The new download manager scans your downloads automatically for security issues. It also contains a great stop and restart feature that works even if your computer crashes.

All in all, the new Firefox 3 really has some great features worth checking out. It does take some time to get to know these and I strongly suggest you read the documentation to learn faster what is at your disposal.
