Promotions are to businesses what air is to us humans. We need it to survive and make money. But not every promotion is based on what we do. Ideally it is word of mouth where other people do the hard work for us.

This where we all want to be, whether we work online or offline. So why would I write about an exit strategy for a business promotion you might wonder?

WordPress 2.6 version was released yesterday a full month ahead of schedule. The new version 2.6 is called “Tyner,” named after jazz pianist McCoy Tyner and contains a number of new features that make WordPress a more powerful CMS.

With WordPress 2.6 you can now track changes to every post and page and even post from wherever you are on the web. Naturally there are dozens of other improvements from the previous version.

If you believe you can surf the Internet anonymously, think again. Recent months has seen a huge increases in online bullying and fighting and when I see bloggers who engage in abuse because they might think they can hide behind their computer I wonder whether they are smart enough to surf hidden from prying eyes.

In case you don’t know this, your IP address is like your digital fingerprint. Your activities can be traced back to you. While not every computer these days has a unique IP address anymore, many still do and those can be traced.

If you surf the web on a company network, most likely your IP address isn’t unique, meaning you are connected to all the other machines in that network. Those cane be traced too by the administrator.

Blog permalinks can carry a lot of weight for bloggers in regards to search engines. What many don’t know is how to set them for maximum link juice with Google and the other search engines.

So off we go, we set them one way or another only to regret this later when we become more savvy. But if we were to change them without precautions we would loose all existing links and indexed pages by search engines as the link structure would change.

mySites is a new platform that lets you create free user sites. While we can do the same with Hubs and Squidoo, as well as with WordPress.com and Blogger.com, some web users want a different kind of model to suit their needs. mySites differs in the way where it doesn’t need any coding knowledge on your behalf to get started.

Search engine rankings are the bread and butter of every webmaster in the world. Unless we are found in search engines, most likely traffic is non existent. Of course, we could have a word of mouth site hoping this will continue to bring traffic, but in reality it is the snippets of your site showing in the SERPS that will get you found.

What many don’t know is they can actually control these snippets to a certain degree. A site display in Google is like a map. Showing all kinds of information, it is helpful to us as webmasters to know what they mean and how and whether we can influence them.
