Blog permalinks can carry a lot of weight for bloggers in regards to search engines. What many don’t know is how to set them for maximum link juice with Google and the other search engines.

So off we go, we set them one way or another only to regret this later when we become more savvy. But if we were to change them without precautions we would loose all existing links and indexed pages by search engines as the link structure would change.

mySites is a new platform that lets you create free user sites. While we can do the same with Hubs and Squidoo, as well as with WordPress.com and Blogger.com, some web users want a different kind of model to suit their needs. mySites differs in the way where it doesn’t need any coding knowledge on your behalf to get started.

Twitter search engines are fast and dynamic online platforms that give you the latest Twitter gossip. Whether you need to know the latest sport result or hear what Twitter fanatics are talking about right now, you can be at the helm of conversations and know exactly what is hot right now.

This is especially ideal for webmasters who are stuck for blogging ideas. If the dreaded writers block lurks, then hit Twitter search engines to heal the temporary bug.

Bloggers are united around the world by a common attribute. And that is to create content for the web via their respective blogs. As you know we all have different agendas with a blog. Some of us are stay at home mums who blog just for the fun of it and yet others run a small but powerful home business.

Then there are corporations who have finally seen how beneficial a blog can be for them and Realtors who reach out to the world with their listings.

Either way, blogs are as varied and fabulous as they come.

But recently we have heard some whispers about micro blogs. If you ever wanted to find out what a micro blog actually is, now is your chance.

If you are anything like me you would probably wonder what our readers want to know from us. What makes them click, act, comment and interact with our blog’s community?

This is especially of importance for new webmasters and blog masters, since unless we know what makes our readers tick, it is highly unlikely that we can please them accordingly.

RSS feeds are an essential by product of blogging these days. After all they allow us to keep updated on what is happening with other blogs. Plus they are a huge time saver as instead of having to visit each individual blog we like we can subscribe to their RSS feed quick and easy and read the updates in one convenient location like Google Reader.

Finally, today we’re going to cover our third and final type of site in the Different Types of Website Series. The first type was a mini site. The second was a blog.

What are content sites?

Put simply, a content site is a site filled with … you got it … content. Normally, this content would be in the form of informational articles. But content these days, spans across other forms of media as well. There are content sites filled with entertaining videos (think YouTube), audio interviews, how-to screencasts, image collection (as in Flickr).

Pretty much anything.

Although you can create one website about anything and everything, it’s better practice to specialize in a certain niche. So, you could build a site about beds and have articles about beds, videos on how to choose the right bed, images of different types of beds … If you absolutely need to write about chairs as well, you could easily just start a separate site about chairs.

Now we’re on to our second website type in the Different Types of Website Series. The first type was a mini site. Today, we’re moving on to blogs.

What are blogs?

In the past few years, blogs have evolved so much that I’m actually finding it hard to define what it really is. Also known as weblogs, blogs may be hard to describe but easy to recognize. A blog can be recognized by the way its content is organized. You will notice that new content are displayed at the top. So, as new content is added the old ones will move down. Very much like what you see on the WebBriefcase’s blog homepage.

I’m evaluating a multi-media course on blogging from the folks at Simpleology. For a while, they’re letting you snag it for free if you post about it on your blog.

It covers:

  • The best blogging techniques.
  • How to get traffic to your blog.
  • How to turn your blog into money.
